latest work, For The Love of God - A Short Film.
Soraya Soi Free is a woman of many talents. A Black Latina born in Spanish Harlem and raised in the greater New York metropolitan area, she is a community activist, health care professional, and a hip hop era television host and producer. Award winning producer and director for her local cable show We’re On The Move. Soraya Soi Free has re-committed herself in continuing to challenge the public with thought provoking content her latest work, For The Love of God - A Short Film.

SorayaSoi Free is a woman who is the embodiment of the diversity that makes New York a truly cosmopolitan and multicultural city. Her early childhood experiences as Black Latina of Dominican ancestry have helped shape a perspective that is truly representative of the gorgeous mosaic that now represents New York City and provides hope for what a truly diverse America can and should be.

SorayaSoi Free also recognizes the importance of hip hop as a conduit of the 21st century culture. Since 2003, she has interviewed many cutting edge artists in the genre, as well as those who have now gained broad recognition, including Eric Sermon, Pete Rock Afrika Bambada and Talib Kweli.

As a community activist, SorayaSoi Free has been an advocate for Black and Latino children, in particular girls. In the process, she has also sought to raise awareness of heroines of color like Lolita Lebron, Rigoberta Menchu, Sojourner Truth, and Harriet Tubman through her advocacy and activism.

A self-taught videographer and trained in video production at BronxNet, SorayaSoi Free has produced We’re on the Move since September 2010. The program now airs on local cable stations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.

SorayaSoi Free has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and is currently pursuing two master’s degrees at Hunter College of the City University of New York, one in nursing administration and the other in public administration. She hopes to pursue a doctorate in urban studies once she has completed her master’s level work.

A veritable reservoir of energy, Soraya Soi Free gets her strength from her late mother, who was reared in the Dominican Republic and came to this country some years after the 1965 US government intervention. Through her mother, she learned to overcome adversity and recognize the common threads that are interwoven throughout humanity.
